In 2004, Ferrari debuted a limited series of 559 units of the striking and innovative convertible variant of the 575M: the Superamerica. Originally introduced in 2002, the 575M (Modificata) evolved from the celebrated 550 Maranello. Designed by Pininfarina, the 575M retained classic proportions reminiscent of its esteemed predecessor, the 'Daytona' 550 Maranello, with a long hood, compact cabin, and truncated tail. Styling cues such as the hood air scoop and heat extractors behind the front wheel arches paid homage to legendary Ferrari race cars. The rear featured Ferrari's distinctive twin circular lights.
Named after the iconic Pininfarina-designed Lampredi V12-powered GT cars of the 1950s and '60s, the Superamerica retained the 575M's 5,748cc engine, six-speed gearbox, and underpinnings, while introducing a revolutionary pivoting electrochromic roof. Designed by Pininfarina's chief stylist, Leonardo Fioravanti, creator of the legendary 365 GTB/4 'Daytona', it was the first of its kind on a production car, constructed with a carbon fibre frame integrated with electrochromic glass. Activated with the push of a button, the Superamerica swiftly transformed into a convertible, with the roof rotating back to rest flush with the boot lid in just 10 seconds, making it the world's fastest convertible berlinetta with a top speed of 201 MPH.
Derived from the 575M Maranello, the Superamerica boasted enhancements delivering 540 BHP. This exceptional example has covered just 1,700 miles and is finished in the rare and specially ordered colour of Blu Mirabeau over Nero leather.
It stands as 1 of only 559 examples ever produced, with just 63 made in right-hand drive configuration.
